Phil Wang

Fee Band

In his own words, Phil only got into comedy because he wanted to show people how clever he thought he was. The Sunday Times assures that he delivers ‘certain belly laughs’ with his self-consciously abstract style tackling male feminism, childhood and living the immigrant dream.

Biography

Phil Wang is a fast-rising standup star whose line in warm, clever observational comedy has brought him a wealth of TV credits and international live performances in a short time.

Proclaiming he started out in comedy in an attempt to demonstrate how clever he is, Phil delivers an intelligent but uncynical set, laced with wordplay and skilful riffs. He touches on his Malaysian heritage, broodiness, being a child that acted like an adult, and why companies that make embarrassing products can charge what they want.

Phil has appeared on Live at the Apollo, Have I Got News For You, Would I Lie to You?, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, The John Bishop Show and Drunk History. He has been heard on the Comedy Live Lounge for Radio 1, and Fresh From the Fringe and Best Behaviour for Radio 4. As part of the acclaimed sketch trio Daphne he co-wrote and co-starred in their Radio 4 series Daphne Sounds Expensive (in which the three comedians tried to spend ever more ludicrous sums on making their show). As an actor he’s also starred in BBC Three’s spoof cop show Top Coppers.

Live, Phil has performed solo shows at Edinburgh, Melbourne and the Montreal Just For Laughs festivals, and he has both the Chortle and Comedy Central student comedy awards to his name.
