Martin has been ever-present on UK screens and stages since the eighties. His career took off when he joined his big brother's school band Spandau Ballet as the bass player. They became one of the defining bands of the decade, and enjoyed incredible success, countless chart hits, and sell-out tours. He then went on to appear in the successful gangster film The Krays, and was known to millions of Eastenders fans when he took on the role of Steve Owen.


Biography

Martin Kemp’s career set off when he formed the new romantic band Spandau Ballet playing bass guitar. The group went on to tour the world and had a number of Top Twenty hits in the eighties. Their single True also made the American Top Ten.

He was asked to star alongside his brother Gary in the film The Krays which was a huge success and moved to Hollywood where he made several films. Martin was then offered the role of Steve Owen in EastEnders and won numerous awards including Best Male Actor at the national TV Awards.

His book True: An Autobiography of Martin Kemp, spent several months in the Sunday Times best sellers list. In Ticket to the World: My 80’s Story, Martin recalls what it was like to lead the New Romantics, stay up all night at the Blitz with Sade and Boy George, travel the world with Spandau Ballet and contribute to the era-defining Live Aid. While in It's a Love Story, Martin and his wife Shirlie tell the story of how they met, their stellar careers and raising a family together.

On Greatest Hits Radio Martin hosts the weekly show The Mixtape. He has also performed in theatre as Billy Flynn in the West End performance of Chicago. He has toured all over the UK with his popular Audience With, he also tours with his Back to the 80’s DJ sets.

Martin appeared as a Judge on BBC’s entertainment show Let it Shine and was a contestant on Celebrity Island. He and Shirlie were part of a travel documentary The Road to Saigon and released their first joint album In the Swing of It.  Martin and his son Roman were part of the cast for Celebrity Gogglebox and hosted the morning ITV show Weekend Best.
