Jonty Bloom

Fee Band

Jonty was at the forefront of BBC radio and online coverage of the latest economic, business and European stories – from the workings of the central banks to the changing face of the high street.

Biography

One of the BBC's and Radio 4's most respected reporters, Jonty covered all areas of business, industry and economics stories, as well as Europe, for 20 years mainly for BBC radio and online. He has covered OPEC conferences, EU summits, stock markets dramas, Brexit and recessions.

Following an early career in the City, Jonty studied international relations. He then joined BT Citycall, a financial news service, before moving across to the BBC where he helped launch Business Breakfast. He has reported for the World Service on matters from cross-border mergers to the ramifications for Europe of movements in the US economy.

Jonty’s reports for The World Tonight, including his work on the influence of the oil industry in the run-up to the Iraq Invasion, have twice won him the Wincott Award for Radio Programme of the Year as well as the Royal Statistical Society award for Broadcast Journalist of the Year. He continues to comment on domestic and international economic issues, particularly European stories.
