The Liverpudlian is one of comedy’s biggest draws, with a smiling take on family life. John has cycled the length of Australia’s Gold Coast, gawped at gorillas in Rwanda and brought a new chat show to UKTV’s W channel. The Telegraph described John as ‘a marvellous raconteur.’

Biography

John Bishop is an award-winning Liverpudlian stand-up comic and TV presenter. From open mic spot to prime-time Saturday night TV, John has become one of the biggest stars in comedy in a remarkably short period.

It all began when John wandered into a down-at-heel Manchester comedy club; faced with the choice of paying for entrance, or getting in free if he performed, he chose the latter. Within a year he was headlining the clubs and reaching the finals of the Daily Telegraph Open Mic and BBC New Comedy awards.

Television success soon followed. John was the first guest artist on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. He then appeared on Mock the Week, Skins and even Celebrity Mastermind amongst others before being given his own prime time Saturday night show, John Bishop's Britain.

John brings his brand of deadpan humour to the madness of modern life and the pros and cons of being a Scouser. His observations encompass every aspect of his varied and colourful story: from fatherhood to cycling around the world, from a successful career in pharmaceuticals to playing semi-professional football (and beating a team featuring Jamie Redknapp).

John has also become one of the country’s most successful live comedians playing huge UK tours. These have included Elvis Has Left The Building which ended with a sell-out night at Wembley Arena which also became a best-selling DVD. He followed this with the even bigger tour, Sunshine, which took in even more of the country’s largest arenas. John has also made his dramatic acting debut in Ken Loach’s acclaimed Iraq war film, Route Irish.
