As one of the few (if not only) people working at the intersection of climate change research and stand-up comedy, Matt provides informative and humorous talks about what needs to be done to save our planet.
Dr Matt Winning combines his background in climate change policy and environmental economics with his experience as a comedian. He does this through his informative and humorous keynotes, as well as his live climate change comedy.
Matt has a PhD in climate change policy, and remains an active researcher and lecturer. Believing that it’s important to use humour to discuss climate change (something that he has discussed in his Tedx talk), he combines his two worlds in an attempt to save the planet. These themes were explored in his debut book Hot Mess: What on Earth can we do about Climate Change?, which was described by Adam Kay as ““a very funny, important and only moderately terrifying clarion call of a book”.
Matt has become a familiar face on TV, having appeared as environmental correspondent on Dave’s Unspun with Matt Forde and has also featured in BBC Scotland shows The State of It and Scot Squad. He has also made a number of radio appearances, including the BBC Radio 4 series Net Zero: A Very British Problem, as well as making guest appearances on BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show and BBC Radio Scotland’s Breaking The News.
