Jamie Cullum is one of the brightest stars in British jazz. He is equally applauded for reworking standards by Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald, as he is for interpreting more recent hits by the likes of Radiohead and Nirvana.
Jamie worked his way through university as a singer-pianist. His interest in jazz piano grew as he found himself inspired by Bill Evans, Erroll Garner, Herbie Hancock and Thelonious Monk – as well as Harry Connick Jnr.
In common with other pop/jazz crossover artists like Diana Krall and Norah Jones, Jamie has gained a huge mainstream following. His twentysomething album earned him a Grammy nomination and worldwide acclaim.
Jamie performs solo in cabaret mixing Cole Porter and Kurt Cobain, dishing up a rich menu of classics and Cullum originals.
The first thing you notice working with Jamie is how down to earth he is – there’s no ‘white lilies and champagne’ nonsense on his rider! But onstage his star status comes across, powering through a mix of covers and original material. At Jamie’s last gig for me he even invited guests to sing with him!
