As one of the BBC News Channel’s main anchors, Maryam has become a familiar face through her coverage of breaking news stories, as well as anchoring the channel’s flagship international news programme The World Today.
Maryam Moshiri is a Chief Presenter at BBC News, where she anchors The World Today with Maryam Moshiri on the BBC News channel, which has an audience reach of 112 million people weekly. She also presents the national news bulletins on BBC1.
Maryam started her BBC career as a Business news presenter, where she covered a range of stories - including reporting on the economic impact on of the 9/11 attacks, to the global economic crisis. She has interviewed some of the world’s leading economists and CEOs, including Jeff Bezos, Reed Hastings and Willie Walsh. In this role, she was the fact of business on the BBC News channel and BBC world for 16 years.
Maryam then went on to become a main news Presenter, where she covered major events including the Covid-19 pandemic, the outbreak of war between Ukraine and Russia, and the death of Queen Elizabeth II. She also anchored shows including OS, Global and The Context.
In 2023, Maryam was announced as one of five Chief Presenters who would anchor coverage on the BBC’s newly-merged news channel, aimed at audiences in both the UK and globally. Outside of the news, she has also become familiar to audiences through her appearances on a number of entertainment and comedy programmes - including Joe Lycett’s hit Channel 4 show Late Night Lycett and Ian Smith is Stressed on BBC Radio 4.
