I. Stephanie Boyce is the former President of the Law Society of England and Wales. While she was the 177th person to take on the role, she was only the sixth woman - and the first person of colour - to reach its highest office, shattering the glass ceiling in the traditionally hierarchical and male-dominated profession, and reshaping perceptions of leadership within the organisation.
During her time in office, she served under two Prime Ministers, three Lord Chancellors, two Monarchs, as well as over 70 ministerial resignations, and a series of domestic and geopolitical events. Stephanie was responsible for leading the profession through a global pandemic - and the knock on effects on how individuals and companies worked - as well as the war in Ukraine, the cost of living crisis and the death of Her Majesty the Queen. Her leadership during this period was focused on maintaining the stability of the organisation through turbulent times - but also marked by her determination to make a difference through developing a lasting legacy of change.
In speeches, Stephanie covers her leadership journey, discussing how leadership rooted in resilience and representation can drive meaningful organisational transformation. She speaks about her professional journey, covering how she went from growing up on a council estate in a single-parent household to the top of her profession. With insights into how technology could radically change her profession, she also discusses AI, and how there needs to be appropriate guardrails in place with the technology to prevent serious harm and eradicate any underlying biases and unfairness that may exist.
Stephanie has been on the Governance Hot 100, the Power List of 100 Most Influential Black People and was awarded the Burberry British Diversity Awards-Inspirational Role Model of the Year.
