Biography

A leading journalist, writer and commentator on intelligence, national security, cybersecurity and risk, Gordon Corera has spent over two decades uncovering and explaining the complex worlds of espionage, terrorism and geopolitics. As the BBC's Security Correspondent for 20 years, he has reported on intelligence, security and conflict from across the US, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, covering pivotal events from 9/11 to the invasion of Ukraine. He now co-hosts The Rest is Classified podcast, which explores both the historic and contemporary impact of spies, secrets, and security agencies.

Gordon’s reporting extends beyond current events to deep explorations of the institutions and technologies that shape global security. He has written and presented programmes on intelligence agencies, including the UK’s MI5, MI6, and GCHQ, as well as the CIA, NSA, and Mossad. His work often examines the intersection of technology and security, exploring how developments in AI, quantum computing, and cyber-espionage are reshaping national and international priorities and relationships. An acclaimed author, Gordon has published books revealing the fascinating, sometimes shocking stories of the intelligence world. His works include MI6: Life and Death in the British Secret Service, Russians Among Us, and Intercept: The Secret History of Computers and Spies, which explores the profound implications of cyber-espionage for states, businesses, and individuals. Whether unearthing historical secrets, recounting moving personal stories, or analysing contemporary threats, his work is engaging, insightful and thought-provoking.

With high-level access and long-established expertise, Gordon guides audiences through the interplay of intelligence, politics, and technology. From the risks and rewards of emerging technologies to the human stories behind historic and ongoing conflicts, his insights resonate with policymakers, business leaders, and the public alike. His ability to distill complex topics into relatable, relevant and intriguing narratives has also made him a sought-after speaker and host. He has hosted and participated in events ranging from the National Cyber Awards to the Aspen Security Forum, where he has interviewed high-profile figures like the head of the NSA.
