Gemma is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender for Liverpool, as well as the England women's national football team. She began her career with her hometown club Leeds United, before spending two seasons with Chelsea. She has also played for Manchester City, was the first woman to captain a team to back to back Women’s Super League Titles.
Gemma Bonner is a defender who plays for Liverpool and the England’s Women’s national football team. She started her career with hometown club Leeds United, where she helped the Lilywhites to League Cup success. Her performances attracted interest from Chelsea, and she joined them for the new Super League campaign and went on to feature in the FA Cup Final.
Gemma was then appointed captain of Liverpool Ladies and led the side to two consecutive league titles. Following this she joined Manchester City, and then signed for Louisville F.C., becoming Captain at the start of her second season, before re-signing with Liverpool.
An England representative at Under 17s, Under 19s, Under 20s, and Under 23s level by the age of nineteen, Gemma has accumulated a wealth of international experience. She was in the England Under 17s World Cup team, and part of the England Under 19s European Championship winning side. She received her first senior team call up for the UEFA 2013 qualifier away to Croatia and has eleven caps for the Lionesses.
Outside of her playing career Gemma has appeared on a multitude of media platforms including providing commentary and analysis for Liverpool FC’s in house match coverage channel LFCTV, appearing on the BBC Women’s Football Show, and talkSPORT2’s Women’s Football Show.
