Biography

The daughter of a famous actor, Nina Conti ran away from the Royal Shakespeare Company to become a ventriloquist. She has since wowed audiences from Las Vegas to Melbourne. Her regular sidekick Monkey claims Nina’s act is “genre-defying” but he’s full of foam and lives in a small box, so what does he know?

Nina takes ventriloquism away from traditional family entertainment towards something a little more edgy, with hilarious results. Her own clean-cut image and Monkey’s cutesy appearance betray a less than innocent vocabulary. And when she picks out audience members to join her onstage, giving them masks to cover the lower half of their face, they too seem to shed their inhibitions.

Nina had the honour of performing in cabaret at The Queen’s 90th birthday party. Her many TV credits include Live at The Apollo, Russell Howard's Good News and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Take Away. As an actor she has appeared in Single, the HBO sitcom Family Tree, as Dylan Moran’s ex in Black Books, and as a weather presenter (with monkey) in the Hollywood film For Your Consideration.

You’re in for a treat with Nina, particularly if it’s one of your colleagues that gets pulled up onstage. With a wealth of characters at her fingertips it’s always going to be a fun show. I’m constantly amazed at her skill as well as her quick wit – especially when Monkey sings Time to Say Goodbye!
