Biography

Deborah Frances-White is a stand-up comedian, writer, presenter and coach best known as the co-creator and host of The Guilty Feminist podcast.

Adopted at ten days old, Deborah was raised in Australia, became a Jehovah's Witness as a teenager, left her religion and family to come to London with a one way ticket. She has worked as an interpreter in both sign language and Japanese, read English at Oxford, and has lived in a number of countries including America and Israel. This unconventional life has informed much of her comedy, along with her skill as an improviser.

As well as staging improvised comedy shows and teaching the principles of improvised comedy, Deborah’s Spontaneity Shop evolved into a corporate workshop, teaching advertising executives, bankers, lawyers, charity workers and many others how to give better presentations, network with ease, be more charismatic leaders or be more inspiring and creative. She also talks on diversity and how we need to also need to remember inclusion.

Away from the performing stage, Deborah and fellow comedian Sofie Hagen founded the popular Guilty Feminist podcast, a live show in which hosts and guests discuss their views on feminism, and the moments that they catch themselves being less than ideal feminists. Deborah has also written the book, The Guilty Feminist: From our noble goals to our worst hypocrisies, and hosts the Global Pillage podcast.

Deborah continues to perform at comedy clubs and festivals around the world and tour with with The Guilty Feminist Live show. Her television credits include QI, Have I Got News for You, Mock the Week, Would I Lie to You? and Question Time and her op-ed pieces, columns and interviews have appeared in The Guardian, The Telegraph and The New York Times.
