In today’s diverse workplace, multiple generations often work side by side, including Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z. With Generation Alpha not far away and the age of retirement rising all the time we could feasibly see five generations in the same workplace in the next few years.

This intergenerational mix brings a wealth of perspectives and skills, but it also presents distinct challenges. In fact you could say, just like death and taxes, workplace challenges are an inevitable part of life.

An additional challenge that is perhaps unique to our time is the work from home debate.  Since the pandemic the world seems to have realised and accepted (for the most part) a hybrid work model. This brings countless benefits, not least boosting equality by providing employees with greater flexibility to balance personal and professional responsibilities, reducing the disparities faced by those with caregiving duties or disabilities.

Whilst I believe that the hybrid model boosts productivity and is here to stay, it must be noted that it comes with its own unique challenges. Leaders must ask themselves how they will maintain a company culture and foster the social connections that can be so helpful? How are communication gaps overcome and team cohesion maintained? Leaders must also consider the issues that arise from visibility bias. There is an argument that frequently working from home could stunt career development as leaders unconsciously favour those they see in person on a regular basis. Given that it has been shown that hybrid work is a gendered issue, overcoming this is important for maintaining gender equality.

Here are a few brilliant business speakers who consider the issues outlined above, offering innovative ideas and solutions:
