Richard Bacon is a radio and television broadcaster and presenter who’s work has covered everything from children’s programmes to political debate to reality shows.
After an eventful early career on local radio and the short-lived L!VE TV, Richard made his name on Blue Peter, where he tried his hand at barefoot water-skiing, Arctic exploration and making a DVD-player out of a cardboard box, a piece of string and some sticky-back plastic. He famously left the programme under more sensational circumstances.
Richard went on to report for and then co-present Channel 4’s Big Breakfast. He also presented Top of the Pops and Get Staffed, before moving back to radio with BBC 5Live, and drivetime shows on Xfm and Capital FM. He returned to 5 Live for a four-year stint in the afternoons which established the mix of controversy, insight and humour for which he’s become known.
Amongst a bewildering list of TV credits, Richard has appeared on The Thick of It, Rob Brydon’s Annually Retentive, Have I Got News For You, Psychoville, 10 O’Clock Live, Would I Lie to You, Loose Women, and This Week. He’s presented his own ITV4 show, Richard Bacon’s Beer & Pizza Club as well as The Big Painting Challenge on BBC1, The Big Idea for Sky and Young Voters' Question Time. He’s guest-presented The Wright Stuff and This Morning, and also presented shows on BBC 6Music and Radio 2.
